Publications

ASCLS Career Recruitment Brochure - This American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS) brochure is a colorful synopsis of our profession and presents testimonials from current practitioners.   Some work in traditional roles but others tell the story of how valuable CLS education is to other career paths.   This brochure can be customized for individual programs/institutions.


ASCP Career Resources - the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) website, (Careers booklet), offers a "Careers in Pathology and Medical Laboratory Science" booklet for Pathologists, Pathologists Assistants, MT, MLT, HT/HTL, CT, and PBT/DPT. The booklet is available for purchase in bundles of 25 at the website.

National Society for Histotechnology (NSH) - offers a career brochure, "The Art and Science of Histotechnology, A Career to Consider," which assists individuals in evaluating career opportunities as a histotechnologist




CDs or Videos

ASCLS CD-ROM - The CD animates the brochure and goes a step further by presenting a "live" situation in a health care setting. This situation illustrates the role that the laboratory plays in providing a valuable service and contributes to the quality of health care. CD can be customized for individual programs/institutions.


National Society for Histotechnology (NSH) - offers a video, "The Art and Science of Histotechnology - A Visit to the Laboratory," for rent or to purchase. The 13 minute video shows step by step procedures performed by histotechnologists in the preparation of tissue specimens for a diagnostic evaluation.


Diagnostic Detectives CD - The Diagnostics Detectives is an interactive CD on which medical laboratory professionals describe the rewards of their respective careers. The CD is available by contacting the Biomedical Laboratory Diagnostics Program, Michigan State University; e-mail to bld@msu.edu.



CLMA Career Day Materials - CLMA developed materials and a PowerPoint presentation to assist in preparing a career day presentation. Users are encouraged to customize the materials according to their own experiences; http://www.clma.org/kb/article.aspx?id=10557&s=mb.


University of Nebraska Medical Center - has developed a CD-ROM containing several PowerPoint presentations relating to CLS case studies that high school teachers and students can use in the classroom. To obtain a copy, contact Linda Fell at UNMC; lfell@unmc.edu.


University of Minnesota - will share a Powerpoint presentation, entitled "What Is a Clinical Laboratory Professional and What Are They Doing With My Body Fluids?" which was created for distribution to high school science teachers and career counselors; free download - Click Here.


Washington State Society for Clinical Laboratory Science - developed PowerPoint presentations to use when speaking to high school groups about the profession. This presentation has been made available for WSSCLS by Linda Briewick and Claudia Steen. It is available for members to use or modify to suit any presentation being given. Weber State University - will share a PowerPoint presentation that you can customize. Fourteen (14) slides include information about the profession, a few short case studies, employment opportunities, and issues that impact the profession. University of Massachusetts - developed customized PowerPoint presentations about Clinical Laboratory Science to be used in recruitment presentations to high school students or the general public. Thirty plus (30+) slides include history of the profession, duties of a lab professional, workforce shortage and salary information, & career opportunities.
