POSTMARK DEADLINES: VARIABLE
The ASCLS Education & Research Fund, Inc. provides awards, grants,
and scholarships in a variety of categories. They are:
PURPOSE:
The ASCLS Education & Research Fund (E & R) Scholarship Program
supports education for students, practitioners and educators. The ASCLS
E & R Trustee Award Program supports individuals or groups
who design projects which are of importance to the clinical laboratory
profession. The ASCLS E & R Honors Program recognizes outstanding
achievements, contributions, and service to the professional and celebrates
the value of professional ability and commitment. Research and Grant-in-Aid
awards are also available.
AWARD:
Award and Honors winners receive a plaque at the annual ASCLS meeting. Scholarship, Research and Grant-in-aid winners are announced at the annual
ASCLS meeting.
SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
These scholarships are administered by the Alpha Mu Tau Fraternity.

TRUSTEE AWARD PROGRAM
GLORIA F. "MIKE" GILBERT MEMORIAL TRUSTEE
AWARD
POSTMARK APPLICATION DEADLINE: May 1
PURPOSE:
To recognize professional excellence and to assist individuals within
the profession of clinical laboratory science in their development or
improvement of skills in laboratory administration through continuing
education in structured or independent modes of study.
AWARD:
The winner is announced at the annual ASCLS meeting and receives up to
$300. This award was established by Region III of ASCLS.
Only Electronic Applications are Accepted. Email the completed application as an
attachment by May 1 to the person listed as the E&R contact on the contact page.

ELIGIBILITY:
Any clinical laboratory practitioner who:
- has been engaged in the practice of clinical laboratory science for
at least three years, AND
- has position responsibilities including supervision, administration,
or management, or has established goals consistent with professional
development including these responsibilities.
JUDGING CRITERIA:
- Past professional practice and/or stated professional goals which
should reflect significant accomplishments, excellence in practice,
innovative/creative ideas or progressive achievements that are contributory
to the advancement of the profession.
- Demonstration of administrative abilities and the advancement of the
state-of-the-art of clinical laboratory roles in laboratory administration.
- Peer recognition and/or recommendations.
- Previous study and scholarly achievements relevant to laboratory administration.
- Previous experiences that have contributed to development of administrative
ability should be evident.

HONORS PROGRAM
ROBIN H. MENDELSON MEMORIAL AWARD
POSTMARK NOMINATION DEADLINE: May 1.
PURPOSE:
The Robin H. Mendelson Memorial Award was established in 1971 to honor
the memory of a courageous young man who struggled for five years to survive
kidney dialysis and two transplants during the infancy of the technology.
The purpose of the award is to honor outstanding service and contributions
to ASCLS, the ASCLS E & R Fund, Inc., or clinical laboratory science.
AWARD:
Recipients receive a plaque at the close of the ASCLS House of Delegates
annual meeting.
NOMINATIONS:
Letters of nomination are by the ASCLS Board of Directors members and
must include:
- the nominee's name and address
- the specific contribution for which the nominee is being commended
- the year of this outstanding service
The letter of nomination must be postmarked by May 1 and
sent to:

ELIGIBILITY:
- President of ASCLS
- Elected or appointed officers, including employees, of ASCLS
- Chairperson, members of the ASCLS E & R Fund, Inc.
- ASCLS representatives or other persons whose contributions have been
commendable and deserving of recognition for a particular service or
position during a designated period of time.
- The award is given annually to the outgoing President of the ASCLS
and other persons as may qualify, not to exceed three in addition to
the President.

HONORS PROGRAM
JOSEPH J. KLEINER MEMORIAL AWARDS
DEADLINE: REVIEWED
BY COMMITTEE AT CONCLUSION OF PUBLICATION YEAR
PURPOSE:
The Joseph J. Kleiner Memorial Award is to recognize authors of outstanding
articles published in Clinical Laboratory Science.
The Kleiner awards, established in 1979, are endowed by the Joseph J.
Kleiner Memorial Fund, developed by Ms. Judy Kleiner in honor of her father,
the inventor of the Vacutainer.
AWARD:
Recipients receive a plaque and $1000 at the annual ASCLS meeting.
NOMINATIONS:
Articles published in CLS are reviewed by a committee from the
E & R Fund, Inc. Board of Directors to determine the award recipient.
The senior or sole author of the article receives the monetary award.
ELIGIBILITY:
Any paper published in Clinical Laboratory Science.

CARDINAL HEALTHCARE GRADUATE RESEARCH AWARD

PURPOSE:
The purpose of the Candinal Healthcare Graduate Award is to support
research in Clinical Laboratory Science.
AWARD:
The recipient of the award receives a plaque and $3000 at the annual ASCLS meeting.
