ASCLS Omicron Sigma Awards

PURPOSE:

First awarded in 1977, Omicron Sigma is the ASCLS President's Honor Roll for Outstanding Service. It provides lasting recognition of those dedicated members who volunteer their personal resources, time and energy to the ASCLS. Recognition is at three levels: National, Regional, and State. This allows constituent society presidents, regional directors, and the ASCLS President to recognize members for outstanding service.

AWARD:

All nominees receive a ribbon at the annual ASCLS meeting. The Awards Committee will attempt to process nominations by March 31 to allow for recognition at spring meetings of constituent societies.

NOMINATIONS:

Send Nominations to: Awards Committee
  • The ASCLS President who may nominate up to 100 people for national recognition;
  • Each of the ASCLS Region Directors who may nominate up to fifteen people from their region for regional recognition;
  • Each state president who may nominate eight (8) people and one person for every fifty current members of their society over 400, based on membership figures as of December 31.

OMICRON SIGMA GUIDELINES

CALCULATIONS FOR CONSTITUENT SOCIETIES:

  • The number of members is based on ASCLS alpha membership list figures for each society as of December 31.
  • Divide the total number of members, over 400, that appear on this list by fifty (50).
  • Any fraction may be rounded up to the next whole number, i.e., 405 members divided by 50 = 8.1 = nine nominees.
  • Contact the ASCLS office if you have not received your alpha list in time to make your nominations by your deadline, March 1.

OTHER INFORMATION:

  • The ASCLS President is allowed 100 names for recognition. This list of names is sent to the Awards Committee contact and the Region Directors.
  • The ASCLS Region Directors are allowed 15 names each for recognition. Region Directors are to compare their nominations with the list received from the ASCLS President to avoid duplication.
  • Region Directors send their nominations to the Awards Committee contact AND their respective constituent society presidents.
  • Region Directors are also to send the list of nominees from the ASCLS President to their respective constituent society presidents.
  • Constituent society presidents are to compare their nominations with those of the Region Directors and the ASCLS President to avoid duplication.
  • Constituent society presidents are to submit their list of nominees to the Awards Committee contact only.
  • Check the December 31 membership roster to confirm membership status of nominees and membership number. Non-members will not be considered!
  • Type or print FULL legal name. Do not use nicknames. If a nominee is not on the master membership list, the committee will not consider the nomination.
  • Provide the full name of the constituent society/state in which the nominee is a member. This is important for Regional and National nominees.
  • Provide a brief explanation of the contribution to be recognized.
  • Use the following forms. Use the same format if you are using a word processing program to submit your nominees. Use the Excel spreadsheet at the link below to submit your nominees.
  • The ASCLS President always sends a personal letter to his/her national nominees. It is the responsibility of the constituent society/state President to notify their members of the region/state level nomination. A sample letter of congratulations is enclosed. The ASCLS Awards committee will NOT be mailing a letter to these individuals.

EACH AWARDS COMMITTEE SUBCOMMITTEE RESERVES THE RIGHT TO WITHHOLD THE AWARD FOR THE CURRENT YEAR IF NOMINEES DO NOT MEET REQUIREMENTS.
