ASCLS Theriot Award for Development of Significant Materials in Media & Equipment



POSTMARK APPLICATION DEADLINE: FEBRUARY 15

PURPOSE:

The Theriot Award recognizes and encourages the development of significant materials in the areas of media and equipment

AWARD:

Recipients receive a plaque at the annual ASCLS meeting. Winning entries may be posted in the ASCLS Exhibits Booth at the annual ASCLS meeting in the Exhibits Hall, space permitting.

These forms may be obtained from the Awards Committee contact, from your constituent society president, or through the link at the bottom of this page. Click Here for contact information.

All entries must be submitted on the official ASCLS THERIOT Award Application Form. These forms may be obtained from the Awards Committee contact or from your constituent society president. The application must be typed or printed and sent with a copy of the presentation by the postmark deadline. Deadlines will be strictly enforced. Entries are judged by a subcommittee of the ASCLS Awards Committee.

ELIGIBILITY:

  • Any member of ASCLS that has developed materials in the area of media and equipment, or provided the idea for the items.

  • Any organized group that has developed materials in the area of media and equipment, or provided the idea for the items, that is sponsored by an ASCLS member.
  • All entries must be in a well developed state, not a preliminary stage of investigation or development.

JUDGING CRITERIA

  1. Creativity

    Originality: original or unique approach or concept?

    Graphics/visuals: artwork/graphics enhance project?

    Goal Achievement: project achieves goal or purpose?

  2. Scientific Merit

    Benefit to profession: improve quality of laboratory testing, improve patient care/treatment, enhance teaching?

    Relevance to current laboratory medicine, ASCLS Body of Knowledge or scope of practice: project timely for laboratory practice?

    Accuracy: material accurate to degree necessary for target audience?

    References: references adequate, current, relevant to project?

  3. Professional Quality of Project

    Interest level: project hold attention?

    Ease of use: project "user friendly"?

    Appearance of project: project has polished, professional look reflective of medium selected?

  4. Understanding of selected media

    Technology: project reflects contemporary technology in use of selected medium
    (i.e., current versions of software, contemporary graphics, etc.)?

    Availability: medium used readily available to target audiences?

EACH AWARDS COMMITTEE SUBCOMMITTEE RESERVES THE RIGHT TO WITHHOLD THE AWARD FOR THE CURRENT YEAR IF APPLICANTS DO NOT MEET REQUIREMENTS.
