DRAFT SOLUTIONS BY AREA

POTENTIAL SOLUTIONS

Could AACC (other organizations) have practice analysis
Facilitate entry of military trained staff
Increase CLT's / MLT's (low cost models)

  1. Education
    • more interactive learning
    • strategies/reasons for revitalizing programs (programs are not flexible) provide support for program directors to decrease practicum experience in order to facilitate program survival
    • industry support of ed. programs (grants, tuition assistance); pool instruments / LIS training module; student stipends, grants
  2. Transition/Health Care
    • better communication with industry - nature of products in pipeline
      • get industry involved
    • a new position "business/mgt/technology; could we use PCT's moreá? needs to be physician education in better test ordering (EBM)
increase visibility of lab and the various professions
    • educate managers/administrators as to the fact that good MT/CLS's & MLT/CLT's crank out more CPT codes, decrease error rate, decrease TAT, etc.
  3. Resources (Financial)
    • students stipends, grants, tuition; Congressional funding for programs and scholarships
    • connect educators with industry that teach educators to market to community, to hospital admin. (go public - cable TV, public TV to school) (colleges; TV)
  4. Human Resources
    • identify/train blood to do PR programs - career counseling earlier
    • how can you make salaries better? push computer skills
    • target minority groups (children of immigrants) int'l groups - develop "rationale" for increased salaries for lab managers, e.g., cost of OT, recruiting (AAB, ASCP have some data like this) ("Mad Science" - grant $ available
    • promote creative staffing strategies
    • justify higher salary along with equipt. price (automation, etc.)
    • design lab-oriented modules that can be used at schools
    • take "teachers" in tow K-12 (needs to fit National Science Standards)
