Summit on the Shortage of Clinical Laboratory Personnel
SUMMIT I

The Next Step

From this we endeavor to start the process of constructing a Strategic Plan in which all of us can develop some level of consensus around and use to steer the efforts of our individual organizations toward more effective and concerted actions on behalf of our patients, our members and the practice field. To that end, the following beginning point is offered. Our intent will be to review all the material emanating from the Summit and vet it through the appropriate agencies and committees in the individual organizations and propose repairs, revisions and restatements that make the Strategic Plan stronger. Following this we will confirm a Strategic Plan that we will all attempt to use until it is revised. Along the way this Plan will be the basis of some corollary actions that we take collectively (or as individual organizations) to improve the lot of the supply and demand of trained scientists and technicians serving our patients and their place in the health care system of today and tomorrow. We will seek the assistance of federal agencies, philanthropic organizations, state legislatures, industrial partners, regulatory entities and all others who can bear on the original task of knowing about ourselves, our field and the dynamic that effects it all.

ASCLS heartily congratulates all who took up this cause and who have participated so enthusiastically in its progress to date.
